The FCC took a huge step on Friday in allowing television service providers to turn off unprotected analog video outputs on the back of their set-top receivers. While the FCC says it will allow consumers to enjoy access to newly-released films and other content, the net effect will be that the movie and television industries, along with other content and service providers, will have unprecedented control over what content customers will have access to when using their home’s televisions and audio/video systems. Homes for our Troops has built over 50 specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans at no cost to the soldier. After months of work, one more home is finished in the town of Eagle, welcoming Army Specialist Jason Schultz and his family. Dozens of volunteers have put forth their time, talents and resources to build a beautiful new residence that is created specifically for this injured veteran. More »

The Terra Nova family wishes the best of luck to Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej, Eagle River, WI-native and daughter-in-law of Ed Siergiej, our long-time employee at Ogren Electronics. Jinelle is a member of the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team. The team is off to a great start after beating China 12-1 yesterday, tying a U.S. record for goals in a game. Jinelle played at the University of Wisconsin where she finished her collegiate career as UW’s career leader in goals (89), power-play goals (29), game-winning goals (22) and games played (160).

In a somewhat shocking piece of news, we’ve become aware that all video source equipment that currently output HDTV through component video connections could be pre-programmed to only output standard definition TV resolution (SDTV) through their component video outputs at the end of this year. Terra Nova recently completed a series of audio/video upgrades at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin campus in Wauwatosa, WI. The Wisconsin Poison Center and the Herma Heart Center both received improvements to their video display system and Crestron control systems.
